The indoor rave scene (think Slammin Vinyl, One nation, HTDI, Fusion etc)..

Surely it all died out at the end of the 00's?

I'm pretty sure everything is dead.  Who is going to go to a show like that these days?  Maybe there'd be a few toxic as fuck chin stroking internet forum nerds in a corner.

However "The World of Drum and Bass" just had an event in Brooklyn last night.  This is an ongoing series, "The world of drum and bass".  I didn't go as I don't like going to these things by myself anymore, its too boring.  My only friend who liked this stuff died of cancer last year and we went to these "World of Drum and Bass" shows.  I can't really imagine who would be going to these events anymore.  I would have to guess it was a bunch of hipsters with beards who got into DnB when they heard some Clownstep by Twisted Individual.  I doubt there were any 40+ year olds there who got into DnB when they heard Acen "Close your eyes" like me.

Or isn't there a current generation of ravers out there?

Certainly not!  There's only hipsters.  Have you seen those "Boiler Room" videos on youtube?  They're unfortunate.

Fusion still do some nights down south I think very occasionally.
One Nation hasn't done anything in ages
Fantazia sold the brand to someone who put on a scam festival.
Dreamscape tried to put on a huge event which didn't happen so they went bust.

I would still go to one if it's was old skool in the main room or a sizable lineup in a second room though.

I’m just about to turn 26, and I just wanted to post this from my perspective and seeing some of the negative comments like “the rave scene doesn’t exist any more”. What a ridiculous thing to say! Of course there are a new generation of ravers, otherwise places like Fabric, Studio 338, Phonox, Electric Brixton wouldn't exist, and that's just some London venues. Obviously all of this is pre covid, so hopefully things will return to normal after!

There definitely isn’t anything as regular as Helter Skelter/Dreamscape these days but as Noisemonkey said, Westfest still exists. Also, Moondance still put on some wicked events. I went to their last rave at Great Suffolk Street Warehouse and it was one of the best nights I’ve been to in a long time (bearing in mind I didn’t get to experience the golden era). They had 4 arenas - 1 main D&B arena (which was mostly Jump Up which is pretty rubbish these days but there’s still a lot of good D&B out there it you look for it) and 3 arenas of Oldskool. I was mainly switching between the Moondance and Raindance arenas.

You also have big clubs such as Printworks in London hosting huge events in House, Techno, D&B etc. I went to 25 years of Metalheadz last year and even saw Skream do a Hardcore set, dropping Tango (RIP) & Ratty, Manix etc which was pretty crazy to see.

There’s also a lot of emphasis on outdoor festivals these days, especially in the summer. I haven’t been but I’ve heard for D&B Hospitality In The Park is really good and my mate saw Bukem drop a 90-95 set including The Horn Track and the original Here Come The Drums.

So there you have it, a scene definitely still exists. It’s just a bit different, and this is just a snapshot!

Rave music in its various guises definitely still exists. It just evolves for the next generation. I could be wrong but outside of the 'squat party' scene there aren't many 'raves' in the truest sense but rather clubs/club nights playing rave music. The Moondance you refer to probably being the exception, Fabric & Printworks etc being good venues with amazing sound systems arguably as good as anything in a rave, are different to a Bagleys or Sanctuary. Not necessarily better but different vibes IMO.

Ratling, you've hit the nail on the head with that one. It's obviously not the same, but things change and evolve, for better or for worse. I was never there 'back in the day', and raving is a lot more sanitised in a way these days but that's not necessarily a bad thing - I've heard the atmosphere wasn't always rosy in some of the early raves, especially when the darker sounds started to appear towards the end of 92. You're right in regards to clubs vs raves though. I'd say Motion in Bristol is the closest thing to a 'rave' I've been to, as the venue's literally a warehouse. I enjoy what's available to me though! And yeah was very jealous of my mate for seeing that Bukem set, he said it was unreal!
