INTERVIEW:
B2vos Questions:

Q: Best place you dj’d – pa’d at back in the day and recently (atmosphere )

A: London Astoria – Fantasy FM Xmas party 1991

Q: Would be very interested to know what hardware they used to create their tunes.. awesome big sound for the time.. think it's pretty much very well engineered samples but would be cool to know for sure.

A: Amiga500 and an £8 home made sampler card.

Q: Where's the robotic voice from on 'X-Plore H-Core' ,is it a cylon? & what's it saying ?

A: Cant remember where its from ... but i think its a german robot hence why no one understands what its saying =)

Q: There's a photo in the September '95 issue of Magic Feet with 4 of you in it,so at what point did 2 become 4 & then back to 2 again? & where's the other 2 gone - what are they up to now?

A: Two people joined us during the time we set up our own labels etc, then people left as the market changed making it hard for small record labels to support people financially.

Q: Why did you decide to go in a house/techno/trance/experimental direction in the mid 90's ? instead of jungle or D&B ?
was it a case of 'been there done that - time to move on' or something else?

A: Been there done that , just wanted to try our hand at some other genres.

Q: Did Gerald produce/remix or have any musical input into the tunes on the Celestial label ?

A: Sadly not. We were hoping to work with him on these projects but by the time we had sorted it all out Gerald had moved into Jungle and was lost in it expanse of undergrowth. We did do a track for him on his Juice Box label though.

Q: What do you think of all the different sub genre's & mini scenes in dance music these days ?

A: We’re not a fan of sub genres at all, it was much better when it all came under the scope of ‘rave’ music as you could experience all types of electronic music in one night out and were guaranteed to hear something new and inspirational.

Q: Is the term I.D.M. (intelligent dance music) & it's use inherently racist ?

A: Dont know , I never use that term.

Q: What music/producers are you liking right now ?

A: To many to mention really and as no one outfit, group, artist makes good tunes all the time it’s hard to say. We are really into all types of music. Drum & Bass, techno, House, Classical etc etc etc …….!
Coz mainly just listens to old sets 89 – 92 so i don’t have any current favourites

Q: 'Spicy Tomato Snaps' or 'Roast Beef & Mustard Brannigans' ?

A: COZ 'Roast Beef & Mustard Brannigans'
A: JOE Snaps everytime

Q: What's next ? & Biggup

A: Back2You is our current project, not sure whats next after that.

Q: How did you feel about the development of hardcore at the time?

A: It would have been better if hardcore break beat and the techno of the early 90’s had co-existed. Instead things like Happy hardcore and Gabba came along which did not appeal to us at all.

Q: Which of your productions is your favourite, if you could pick one?

A: Xplore H-core

Q: Do/did you prefer making hardcore or techno?

A: Variety is the spice of life ... no favourite.

Q: Which other artists did you admire back then? (not necessarily just hardcore)

A: LFO, Frequency, Derik May, Frank De Wulf, and most of the R&S crew

Q: What do you think about the state of the music industry at the moment?

A: Its totally F**ked, we are glad we don’t have to rely on it to make a living, if its just a hobby then its all good.

Q: If you could have anyone remix one of your old hardcore classics, who would it be?

A: The public, as you guys keep it alive , hence why we made Back2You

Q: What was your connection with this label: Hhavok
Did you run it or just release records on it, or is that discogs records entry label wrong + you never had anything to do with it?

A: This was my brother’s label. Mark Shotter (Deep Joy) He went on to release tracks which were used in a Spike Lee film. “On the Bus” I think about a bus journey to see Martin Luther Kings famous speech in Washington.

Q: I would say the original version of Seance was made purely on the Amiga, you can tell from the gritty sound quality, the tune on the flip sounds like a better equiped studio was used, am i right?

A: Correct, though the amiga samples were all re-sampled into Roland gear when we created the song in-studio.

Q: Do you get sick and tired of hearing on a ragga tip and sweet harmony

A: I don’t really listen to sets that have those tunes in. Well back in the day maybe a bit. But we don’t hear them so much and when we do they still bring back good memories of fun…!

Q: What's your opinions on hyper on experience?

A: Great track well one off them anyway. Big stabs in it. Forgive my not knowing the name of the track. I (JOE) Know my records from what they look like.

Q: What hiphop were you into back in the day (if any)?

A:All of it .... breakdance – electro is what we grew up on.

Q: Which city is better london or Manchester
Hummmm.

A: Well none for us really but Manchester as its up North????

Q: Adidas or Fila

A: Adidas

STRESS FACTOR FORUM QUESTIONS:

Q: What do you think of mc's?

A: Back in the day they were struggling to make themselves part of the night. Now they are an intrical part of the scene. Most now know when to let the music play. That is a good MC in my eyes. Hype the crowd when needed. They can bring the house down if its done right

Q: How long did it take to write an average tune?

A: The initial ideas would come pretty quick, then over a few weeks the arrangements and mixes would be refined.

Q: Did you mime during a P.A or was it semi live (as in pre-pregrammed but played along) or full on live show?

A: Semi-live most of the time.

Q: Chips or mash?

A: COZ: Mash.
A: JOE: Chips

Q: TOP BUZZ Or RATPACK??

A: Top Buzz

Q: RAVE Or D&B??

Rave

Q: OUTDOOR Or INDOOR EVENTS??

A: Either

Q: BEST & WORST EVENT THEY HAVE PLAYED OR P.A AT??

A: Best: Astoria …. Cant thing of a worst

Q: WHAT WAS THERE BEST YEAR FOR DANCE MUSIC 80's 90's Or Today???

A: '89

Q: HOW MUCH DID IT COST TO PRODUCE THERE EARLY TRACK SEANCE on Reinforced Records??

A: Never really worked out the overall cost.

Q: Where'd the name Nebula 2 come from?

A: Coz liked the name nebula … and there 2 of us …
