Re: Any goals (musically) for next year?
I think learning some music theory should be one of mine too, I am reasonable at using a DAW now but only to make Mickey Mouse music, could really do with learning proper chords etc.

No sorry I'm afraid not for now, they requested that it was a vinyl only release. I will ask again once most of the vinyl is sold though and see what they say.Ric wrote:Are digital versions being made available to vinyl buyers?

I saw today that Korg are offering 50% off their virtual instruments this month:

Have you tried the Wavestation soft synth, and if so how does it compare to the real thing?

If you want one there are still some left:

Just keep refreshing the page. They are obviously adding more each time it sells out to make it look like they're running short. Crafty!

Re: Awesome Formation Tunes...
if the audio hadn't been so distorted when it all starts going I'd have played it a lot more... That's why Music In Search Of Light Remix is my favourite Formation tune, it's one of the few not to fall victim to the terrible distortion and mastering the label is famous for. A lot of their releases ...

Re: The state of DJ'ing nowadays...
That reminds me, years ago I played at a club that usually hosted snooty house events, and the sound engineer had wired up the Allen & Heath mixer so that there were 2 channels (left and right) for each deck! So you had to use 4 sets of faders/EQs for two tracks/decks. I assume they thought they wer...

The truth is not many people are musically literate (myself included) so what sounds terrible to a finer ear sounds just fine to most people. I think most people can spot a bum note or things that are out of time, but you need some musical theory knowledge to spot the more subtle problems.

Re: The state of DJ'ing nowadays...
It's much harder to chop/cut well using up faders, as you have to move both at the same time, and as you say they usually have a much more gentle curve so it often doesn't sound as sharp. Not impossible, but much harder. Although 'blend' mixing works well for some styles and tunes, it sounds wank if...

Re: Dark Horse Records
Wow they all seem to have shot up in value, Night Rider has always been expensive but most of the others were pretty cheap when I picked them up. This definitely used to only be a £3-4 tune:

Re: The state of DJ'ing nowadays...
Knew a guy that swore by vertical fader mixing (crossfader in the middle the whole time), what are your opinions on vertical fader mixing vs crossfader mixing? Pretty much every DJ I've seen play a 4/4 style in recent years just use the up faders, cross fading seems to be a thing of the past. But i...

Re: Any goals (musically) for next year?
I wanted to get my label up to release 10 this year, only managed to get it up to 8 as my wedding got in the way :) so next year I'd like to try and get it to about #15. Need to write more tracks! Would be great to DJ more too but I've got no interest in playing at these 45 minute back to back CDJ a...

They're here! I'll start sending out the pre-orders in the morning, may take a few days to get them all out but everyone in the UK should get their copies next week. If you haven't ordered yet there are still some left, details on page 1. Here's the Discogs entry: http://www.discogs.com/Insomnia-Nos...
